Why Recycle Your Roof

Why Recycle Your Roof?

• Earns credits toward LEED® certifications
• Positions your company as an environmental steward
Saves money through waste reduction
• Reduces carbon footprint
• More government entities are requiring that old rooftop materials be recycled

Saving Money & the Environment Through Recycling

When it’s time to replace your roof, we offer a recycling program that allows you to be environmentally conscious and potentially save money in disposal costs. During one 12-month period, rooftop recycling diverted over five million pounds of old roofing materials from landfills and saved tens of thousands of dollars in waste removal costs.

Recycling Roofing Insulation - Offers Environmental and Cost-Saving Benefits

Construction material waste has come under greater scrutiny as states get more aggressive about recycling goals. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recycling construction and demolition (C&D) materials conserves landfill space, reduces the environmental impact of producing new materials, creates jobs and can reduce overall building project expenses through avoided disposal costs.

Builders and contractors are being asked to recycle materials rather than fill landfills with construction debris but often find it difficult to find recyclers. We offer foam insulation removal and recycling services throughout North America. We collect foam insulation boards (EPS, XEPS, ISO and composite) as well as membranes (EPDM, TPO, PVC) from tear-off flat roof industrial jobsites.

Recycling the foam board at the construction site can contribute to U.S. Green Building Council LEED points. Builders seeking LEED certification can earn Materials & Resources points for recycling nonhazardous C&D debris.

Building owners, architects and contractors can earn extra LEED credits by recycling
insulation from jobsites.

Our Green Disposal Alternative is easy to implement at a job site. After removing the roof, the rolled membrane is stacked on pallets, the foam sheets are piled in manageable stacks and both are placed on a trailer provided by us. When the trailers are almost full, a member of our logistics team swap them out, leaving no down time.

We offer foam removal and recycling services in all 50 states and Canada. Our service is available daily to meet any job site schedule or contractor requirements. We remove, transport and recycle the foam insulation.

Our recycling program saves money and helps builders meet their environmental goals. When planning a roof repair or replacement project contact us.

Insulation in landfills is bad for the environment

Insulation is useful for a long time — much longer than other roofing system components. So it only makes sense to identify opportunities to reuse good insulation panels when possible. Reusing insulation is much better than putting it into landfills, of course. Reusing it helps the environment, saves money and also reduces the costs and effort associated with manufacturing new insulation. In fact, re-roofing waste accounts for up to 20% of all construction and demolition (C&D) waste and C&D waste accounts up to half of all material in landfills. Managing re-roofing waste is one of the most challenging issues.

Here at Nationwide foam we make the process easy. As your team removes the old insulation, we inspect it to determine which pieces are either broken or water damaged and which are suitable for
reuse. The reusable ones are stacked, palletized, wrapped, lowered to ground level and trucked to the Nationwide repurposing facility or to our warehouse. Repurposed insulation is popular for use in barns, basements and attics, and when the goal is to upgrade R-value without paying the higher price of new insulation.

Membrane Recycling

Roofing Membranes

There are many types of roofing membrane removed during re-roofing projects, all of which may be recycled with Nationwide Foam!
We recycle all three (3) major types of roofing membrane, including:

EPDM - Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer “Rubber” Membrane

EPDM is known as rubber membrane and is typically black in color. EPDM membrane is adhered together with adhesive to eliminate all seams so moisture can not pass through.

TPO - Thermoplastic Olefin or Polyolefin Membrane

TPO membranes are single-ply roof membranes constructed from ethylene propylene rubber and are typically white or beige in color. They are designed to combine the durability of rubber with the proven performance of hot-air weldable seams.

PVC - Poly Vinyl Chloride Membrane

PVC membrane is known as vinyl membrane and is typically white in color. PVC membrane is welded together with hot air to eliminate all seams so moisture can not pass through.

Customer Satisfaction

To insure customer satisfaction, Nationwide Foam Recycling sends a Field Representative to each job site to confirm that the foam removal and loading is proceeding smoothly.

The Field Representative also performs a basic inspection of the foam coming off the roof. This enables us, based upon the type of foam, to send the material to the appropriate Nationwide Foam Recycling destination facility for reprocessing.

Foam Insulation Board Recycling

Roofing Insulation

There are many types of roofing insulation removed during re-roofing projects, all of which may be recycled with Nationwide Foam!
We recycle all four (4) major types of roofing foam insulation board, including:

EPS - Expanded Polystyrene Beadboard Insulation (White)

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a rigid and tough, closed-cell foam. It is usually white and made of pre-expanded polystyrene beads. Sheets are commonly packaged as rigid panels (size 4 x 8 or 2 x 8 feet), which are also known as "bead-board".

XPS - Extruded Polystyrene Insulation (Blue, Green, Pink)

Extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) consists of closed cells, offers improved surface roughness as higher stiffness and reduced thermal conductivity. It is usually Blue, Green or Pink and made of extruded polystyrene. Sheets are commonly packaged as rigid panels (size 4 x 8 or 2 x 8 feet), which are also known as "blue-board, green-board, or pink-board".

ISO - Poly Isocyanurate Foam Insulation (Yellow)

Poly Isocyanurate foam (ISO) consists of closed cell polyurethane foam. It is usually Yellow with either a paper or foil backing. Sheets are commonly packaged as rigid panels (size 4 x 8 or 4 x 4 feet), which are also known as "yellow-board".

COMP - Composite Foam Insulation (Insulation with concrete or fiberboard)

Composite Foam Insulation Board (COMP) consists of one of the above listed foams laminated to or between a layer(s) of fiber board or concrete. Typical examples include XPS Blue-Board with Concrete or ISO Yellow-Board with Fiberboard. Sheets are commonly packaged as rigid panels (size 4 x 8 or 4 x 4 feet).
